A shop where somebody has read them. Tell us what you liked last and we will find the next one — and order anything we do not have, usually within days.
In the shop
The shelves, the window, and the table of things we are pressing on people this month.

What we do
New books
Fiction, non-fiction and the ones people ask for all year round.
Ordering
Anything in print, usually within days, and a message the moment it arrives.
School reading lists
The set books for each year, ordered together in September rather than hunted for in October.
Children
Picture books to first novels, sorted by what a child will actually sit through.
Editions
Paperback, hardback, and the translation worth having when there is more than one.
Second-hand and out of print
What we can find, and honest advice when a title is not worth chasing.
Local interest
Books about here, and books by people from here.
Stationery
Notebooks, pens and the things that get bought at the same time as a book.
Gifts
Wrapped, with a card, and honest advice about what a person like that would enjoy.
Book groups and schools
Copies ordered together, with a price agreed before anything is bought.
Events
Readings, signings and evenings worth turning out for — dates on our page.

The shopA room full of things somebody chose
The stock is small enough that we have read a good part of it and can tell you what a book is actually like — not what the cover says.
We order in daily, so the choice is not what is on the shelf; it is everything in print, with somebody to ask about it.
Ordering a book
If it is in print, we can usually get it.
- Step 1
Ask at the counter
Or ring, or send a message with the title — an ISBN removes all doubt.
- Step 2
We check the suppliers
Which edition, paperback or hardback, and when it should arrive.
- Step 3
We call you
The day it comes in.
- Step 4
Pick it up
It waits behind the counter with your name on it.
Good to know
Do you have it in?
Ring or message and we will look while you wait. If not, we can usually order it.
How long does an order take?
A few days for most books. We will tell you when you order, and message you when it arrives.
I only know roughly what it is called.
That is usually enough. Tell us the author, the cover, or what it is about, and we will find it.
Can you get the school reading list?
Yes, and the earlier in the summer you ask, the more of it we will have.
Can you recommend something?
That is the best part of the job. Tell us what you liked and what you did not finish.
Do you wrap gifts?
Yes, free, and we will write the card too.
Looking for something?
Tell us the title, or just what you are in the mood for. Both work.
