Subscription builders are good software. The catch is the arrangement: the site is theirs and you are renting access to it. We sell you the finished thing instead. Both are honest positions. Only one of them survives us going out of business.

No build step, no framework, no account. Double-click index.html and it opens in your browser, offline, on a laptop that has never heard of us. There are no scripts phoning home, no fonts or stylesheets loaded from our servers, and no licence to renew.
It is readable, too. If you or someone you know can edit HTML, the export is written to be edited — sensible names, comments, one stylesheet.

Not a criticism of anybody — a subscription is an honest arrangement and the software is good. It is simply what the arrangement means. A card expires, a business has a bad quarter, a company is bought and the plan changes; on one side of this that is an inconvenience and on the other it is a shop with the shutters down.
